Everything you need to explore wine regions, find descriptions, show vineyard locations, and test your knowledge β all from a single map page.
Navigating the Map
Zoom
Desktop: scroll the mouse wheel, or click the + / β buttons in the top-left corner of the map.
Mobile: pinch two fingers together or apart to zoom in and out.
As you zoom in, the map automatically switches from country-level regions to sub-regions and appellations. Zoom back out to return to the broader view.
Pan / Move
Desktop: click and drag the map in any direction.
Mobile: drag with one finger to pan.
Click / Tap a Region
Click or tap on any coloured polygon on the map to open a description popup for that wine region. The popup includes information about the region's climate, soils, grape varieties, and wine styles.
If the popup is partially hidden behind the toolbar or outside the viewport, the map pans automatically to bring it fully into view.
Click or tap anywhere else on the map to close the popup.
Toolbar
Country Selector
Click the Country button in the toolbar to open a dropdown list of all 18 wine-producing countries. Select a country to fly the map to that country and load its wine regions.
Your last-selected country is remembered between visits.
Region Selector
Click the region button (shows the current region name, or a blank space when at country level) to open a hierarchical dropdown of all regions, sub-regions, and appellations for the selected country.
Type in the search box at the top of the list to filter by name. Click any entry to fly the map directly to that region at the appropriate zoom level.
More Panel
Click the More button to open a panel with additional options: region name labels, vineyard markers, vineyard search, and the two quiz modes.

Show Region Names
Check the Show region names checkbox to overlay region name labels on the map polygons. Uncheck to hide them for a cleaner view.
Labels are shown by default when you load the page.
Show Vineyards
Check Show vineyards on map to display individual vineyard locations as grape icons on the map. Vineyard markers appear when zoomed in to level 11 or closer.
Click or tap a vineyard marker to see its name and details in a popup.
You can also search for a specific vineyard by name using the Search vineyardsβ¦ field β the map will fly directly to it.
Map Quiz
The Map Quiz tests your ability to identify wine regions by location on the map.
- Click More β Map Quiz to open the quiz setup.
- Choose which region levels to include: Major regions, Sub-regions, Smaller Appellations, or WSET Level 3 only. Optionally enable the stopwatch.
- Click Go! to start. A region name appears in the bar at the top of the screen.
- Click or tap the correct polygon on the map. The region flashes green if correct or red if wrong, then the next question appears.
- When all questions are answered, a results screen shows your score.
Wine Knowledge Quiz
The Wine Knowledge Quiz tests factual knowledge about wine regions through multiple-choice questions in four categories: country location, premier grape varieties, climate, and wine styles.
- Click More β Wine Quiz to open the setup screen.
- Choose a difficulty level: Easy (major regions of classic countries), Moderate (broader range of countries and sub-regions), or Hard (obscure regions and detailed appellations).
- Choose the number of questions: 15 or 30. Questions are randomly selected and shuffled each session.
- Click Start!. Each question shows three answer options β click the one you think is correct. No feedback is shown during the quiz.
- After the last question, your results are displayed: fraction correct, percentage, and a rating from Really poor to Fantastic!
